I live in the Tampa Bay area and I had a serious chinch bug issue with part of my lawn; it took weeks to get them under control. I initiated treatment with one ounce of dish soap per gallon of water and add 3 ounces of Bayer Complete to the mixture and sprayed about 1000 sq-ft. I wait two weeks and prepare the same mixture except I used 1.5 ounces Spectracide Triazicide (instead of Bayer Complete); it takes about 4 gallons to treat 1000 sq-ft I repeat the process switching from Bayer to Spectracide in once a month applications instead of two weeks. Since these products are fairly low concentrations, I think it only gives the bugs a headache so they are not as active. Adding the soap seems to make the bugs more active so they get to the pesticides. Now, I start my treatments in May and I finish up in September; after the juveniles hatch. I hope this is helpful.

I live in the gulf coast and we just went through a 2 month drought. The chinch bugs are rampant. I mixed dawn dish soap with a pesticide called cutter at 50/50 ratio. I set the hose sprayer at 6 oz per gallon and treated 1000sq ft. area. This solved my problem. A few days later I sprayed molasses 6oz per gallon, liquid humus, 6 oz per gallon, and soil activator with liquid seaweed at 4oz per gallon. Things are looking up.

Hi-
I see that you used a hose sprayer with the soap mixture. Can you share the ratios and what setting you used on the sprayer please?

In reply to <a href="https://bugwiz.com/get-rid-of-chinch-bugs/#comment-11818">Ally</a>.

Hi Ally, I am in Ontario too and has the same problem. I hired someone to control chinch bugs for 2 years, it doesn't work well. I do take care of my lawn well and I think I should get some pesticide from our neighbors down south to fix this. If possible, could you share your process? I am glad to share mine to you too? I am gonna try Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer For Lawns Granules. What pesticide do you wanna try?
Thank you!

I live in Quebec and I have the same problem with those bugs as the folks in Ontario, total infestation and the town does not allow pesticides. I plan to remove all the thatch this year, then I'll try the soap mix but I will reseed with creeping thyme and clover instead of grass. Hopefully the bugs won't like those plants. The plus for me is no mowing needed once the thyme is established, it spreads quickly, stays short and has pretty little flowers in early summer that attract pollinators. Already tried it one of the flower beds, it looks great! Not a traditional lawn but very attractive nonetheless.

I also live in Ontario and have had chinch bugs for the past 2 years. Last year I hired a lawn company to sprayed them, it did nothing. I was standing next to the technician as he sprayed he was embarrassed didn’t even try to justify it. I have also tried the soap method; dawn, tide and the spray from Canadian tire with no results! This spring I plan on removing the thatch, aeration and going over the border to buy a strong pesticide from our neighbours down south. I take extremely good care of lawn, proper fertilizer, the right amount of water, over-seeding. I’m the only one in my street with this problem. I really don’t understand why my lawn!
