Thanks for this info! I managed to get chiggers all over twice recently about a week apart. Horrible itching yet two weeks later...

I put the tennis shoes I was wearing each time into a plastic bag and have now run out of shoes to wear that I'm not afraid of. :-) If I've had them bagged up for a week and 2 weeks now, are they safe to wear?

Thanks so much for writing such a comprehensive guide! I thought it was poison ivy but when it started getting worse and only itched every few days - I started looking into this idea of chiggers. Calamine lotion has helped me stop itching. I'm surprised you don't have it listed here. I was going to get Chigarid or something like that with camphor and alcohol but I found calahist (calamine and pramoxine are the ingredients). And I feel a lot better now!

My number one question never answered or addressed by anyone is, can I kill a chigger by squishing it, like if I rub my leg where chiggers are with calloused hands so forcefully as to create the feeling of a pretty strong heat, like a carpet burn, will this rub them off and/or squish/kill them OR are they like fleas, nearly impossible to squish them to death between your thumb and finger? Please address this bit of info. It would be nice to see a demonstration of various methods attempting to kill them under a powerful microscopic camera, like between a hammer and steel, between the slap of two palms like you would kill a mosquito or rubbing down your legs with say a piece of leather "while" they are crawling vs after they bore in...
