I live in Texas, the butterfly migration is happening right now. The problem is they keep covering my window ac units at night.
While cleaning the inside of my portable air conditioner, I noticed a lot of bags hanging around and some of them had taken up residence. According to the information given by you, it seems that they are staying like this for feeling hot. After that I spray every 15 days. I think the spray is working well and I checked and saw that there are no bugs.

We had a problem with flies all of a sudden (I killed like 30-40 in a 48 hr span). I was going nuts as I have a bit of a fly phobia (gruesome story as to why). My daughter kept saying it was my new window a/c which I thought was ludicrous as I had my previous a/c for several years without so much as a mosquito coming from it. Alas my daughter was correct. We taped cheesecloth over the interior vent & within an hour there were dead flies & fly pieces (ugh!) trapped inside. My advice is make certain the a/c you're purchasing has an inner housing that fully blocks any pests entrance. My previous a/c (which was awesome & still worked like a charm, I just needed more BTU's) was a Frigidaire. My current "bug gateway" is a GE 12,000 BTU. You can clearly see the styrofoam backing as you look into the interior vents (that's 100% the issue). With the Frigidaire you only see closed accordian venting. I'm sure pests could get in there but again I never saw a bug in over 5 years. I'll be keeping cheesecloth over the vents & changing it weekly to discard bugs & keep clean. Hope this helps.

I don't use screen I just spray it weekly with whatever bug spray I have on hand my window opens from the side not the top so I have a huge gap taped shut with an mdf board. I'm going to put screen over the interior vents tho that's a good idea.

There should be a distinction between mosquitos entering through the AC and mosquitos entering through gaps in the area of the AC. The fins behind window AC units (a storm recently disabled my central unit & I'm using window units till repairs) exhaust heat while ports on the sides and top allow air into the unit to cause evaporation and condensation of the coolant. Mosquitos by the gazillions enter the unit and somehow find their way into the house. In addition, they die in the heat exchange fins and cause a horrible stench outside. I'm currently fashioning screen material to make it impossible for mosquitos to enter the unit, so that they can't find their way to the blower that pushes cold air into the house. We’ll see.

The information you gave about mosquitos and how they can travel through air conditioners because of the warm temperatures really helped to read. Mosquitos have been the number one thing my neighbors have warned me about ever since I moved into my new house, and I want to take their advice seriously so my kids won't get sick. With how warm it can get here sometimes, I'm definitely going to take some extra measures against them, so I'll find better ways to use my air conditioning unit after getting a pest control service to help me pest-proof the place.
